Mission:
Team FREDNET is demonstrating that Open Source development is a viable way to solve complex real world problems. FREDNET Mission teams are based upon the efforts of volunteers from all over the world. We employ web 2.0 technologies to support a collaborative development environment where discipline experts address technically challenging mission objectives.
Our initial mission is to land on the Moon and return HD images and video of the lunar surface by December 2012. This mission is, however, just a first step in the demonstration of the successful integration of open source technologies. We intend to develop the means and methods through a continued multinational collaborative effort to use the resources of solar system to reduce the load on our fragile Earth-bound environment.
Position Description:
Team FREDNET project management will lead the organization and execution of system and sub-system developments with support from mission engineering leads. Project management reports directly to the Team FREDNET management and is responsible for the definition and tracking of open tasks
Project management positions are volunteer positions for which you can contribute as much as you are willing and able. We are building a Project Management Team based upon the interests in this position. Because the community management function is vital to the strength and health of our community, we will require an agreed upon commitment for the time you are willing to contribute.
Summary of essential functions of Project Management:
* Work closely with system and sub-system engineering leads
* Organize and manage system and sub-system engineering efforts
* Develop, track, and update schedules for mission milestones and deliverables
* Define, create, monitor, and close-out sub-system tasks
* Identify and manage sub-system interfaces
* Identify and support team staffing efforts required for sub-system developments
* Support weekly, monthly, and quarterly team meetings
Abilities required:
* Experience with the formulation and development of open source projects
* Experience with web 2.0 technologies such as forums and wikis.
* Experience with scheduling software.
* Experience in team leadership and technical management
* Enthusiasm in joining a new, exploratory and experimental project.
* A believer in Open Innovations and Open-Source methodologies.
* A space geek with a propensity for turning dreams into reality.
